“God is Good…”

By Sherman Ragland | September 18, 2007

Thank you to all who sent emails and called yesterday.

I am home and resting comfortably.

Rather than answering individual questions, I thought, “he since I have a blog…”

Yesterday at around 9:30 AM I was traveling Northbound on US 301 in Upper Marlboro in the left hand lane.

In front of me by about 2-3 car lengths was a red pick-up truck traveling in the right lane, heading in the same direction.

The driver of the red pick up truck decided at that he wanted to turn left, I assume into the WAWA convienience store and gas station that is located in the median of US Route 301.

The only (2) problems of course with this decision was that:

a) I was in the left lane, and

b) We were both traveling about 45 miles per hour.

When he turned, he turned into me at a 90 degree angle and while I slammed the brake to the floor and veered left to miss him, it was too late.

The accident totaled my SUV (as you can see from the pictures) and sent both of us to the hospital.

Despite the injuries, after some pain medicine was injected into me and a series of x-rays and test, they let me go about 6 hours later, so I could get some more pain meds and muscle relaxer and stay home for the rest of the week. … Gotta love Mondays.

I never saw the driver of the red truck, although I was told he was sitting up and talking at the hospital and his name is Mr. Harris. Please kee him in your prayers. Not sure what was so important he needed to make a beeline for the WAWA, but it was a costly decision for both of us.

Fortunately, for me, there was no one else in the car as any passenger would have been severely injured, or worse. Fortunately for the driver of the other car, I was in front of a truck, which may have been what he collided with instead of my car. I know this becuase the truck driver was kind enough to stop and check on me, and then wait with me until the EMT’s arrived.

As we say in church, “God is good… all the time” ;)

p.s. – next time you see my wife, please tell her “Thank you” for me. My 44th birthday present is now headed for the automotive graveyard, but it sure ‘nuf did its job. Had I been in anything smaller than my NAVIGATOR, I would not be writing this to you now.

Sherman, I was sorry to hear of your accident. I am so grateful that he spared you from being hurt worst than you are. God is Good! As you recover, remember you are in my prayers.

    Blessings,
